Larimar - Be like water
Updated: Jul 10, 2022

Larimar is only found in the Dominican Republic. It’s a rare blue variety of Pectolite, a bunch of needle-like crystals that have grown together in a solid mass and forms in cavities in basaltic lava. It was discovered by a monk and an explorer who named it together. The explorer picked the first part of the name, saying that the stone reminded him of the acceptance in his daughter Larissa’s blue eyes. The monk picked the other half “mar” - ocean in Portuguese - saying the patterns made him think of a peaceful ocean. It has also been called the Mermaid Stone because of its strong connection to the tides and the seas.
Larimar is a soothing stone of serenity, acceptance and faith. It is strongly associated with the Divine Feminine. It is an excellent companion through unexpected changes and transformation as it helps us keep grace and dignity through times of big upheavals where we are not fully in control of our destiny. It reminds us that everything is part of the eternal ebb and flow of life.
Like a stream that babbles, churns, falls and rushes over rocks so life sometimes feels chaotic and unpredictable, but like the stream eventually finds its way to the ocean where it belongs, so too shall we find our peace and wholeness and be rejoined with The Source at the end of our journey.
Larimar is helpful for anybody who has a hard time letting go control. It is especially useful if these emotions are tied to previous negative experiences, mistakes we still blame ourselves for, or emotional trauma. It teaches us to allow ourselves to go with the flow and trust in the path that the Universe has set out for us.

Larimar teaches us to be like water, it takes on the shape of any container it is poured into, but over time it can carve mountains into valleys.
Larimar is often used to alleviate post-partum depression and ease the stress of new parents. Larimar connects to throat chakra, the seat of truth, honesty, creativity, clear communication and self expression. The throat chakra is the place where head and heart meet, so it acts as a referee between thought and feelings.
Warning: Sunlight and heat will fade larimar over time.
